Food & Clothing Community Placement Testimonials

“Entering into the BIBS program has helped me enormously with my people skills.  It built up my confidence in dealing with the public.”

“Before I started at the Food & Clothing program, my email address was antisocial.com.  Now I changed it to a little more positive one.  I still use the anti social address on the bad days, though.  I learned some new skills here and expanded on others.  Between the job I had before this placement and were I am right now I would rather be at placement because some people are nicer than where I was working and its more fun.  [I have] a great supervisor.  She is very helpful.  I like placement, it’s fun.

“Since starting at the Food & Clothing program in Napanee I have learned great people skills and self-motivation.  The support group there is fantastic.  I enjoy group meetings because everyone was included in all decision making.  Cashier training was well presented, which now I feel more comfortable dealing with customers and problem-solving.  I have now just enrolled in a course called ‘The Basic Shelf’ which teaches us to eat healthier and prepare for possible restaurant employment. The volunteer staff and I are now organizing an open house for social workers and staff in May, and a side walk sale/ barbeque in June, to raise money for the B.I.B.S. program.  Organizing this is teaching us all about budgeting, sales, advertising and much, much more.  In my opinion, I feel that without the support of caseworkers and program staff, many of us would be lost in the system.”

“My placement at BIBS has been both enjoyable and rewarding.  I have been able to upgrade my knowledge in using a cash register and have also learned how to take stock and do purchasing.  I have met a lot of really nice volunteers and customers.  Having a support worker ... makes each day here a pleasure.”

“Since I started at BIBS I have learned to stock shelves, do pricing and laundry, work on cash and sew, count inventory and I have met a lot of nice people.  I really like working here.”

“My placement has been enjoyable.  After being here just a short time everyone makes you feel like you are special; and no one treats you any better than they would someone else.”
