Addiction Treatment

Ontario Works provides participants with practical help to get ready for employment.  Unfortunately, some people are unable to take part in these activities due to alcohol and/or drug related problems.

We are not prepared to leave anyone behind.  Our recently implemented Addictions Treatment program is designed to provide services that help people get the treatment they need to lead independent lives and to provide for themselves and their families.

Addictions often involve multiple problems ranging from mental health to sexual and/or physical abuse to family and social problems.  We will offer an initial screening test to help determine if addiction may be a barrier to employment and to identify your immediate needs.  Next may be an in-depth assessment that will identify your readiness for change, the issues you need to address and the available options for treatment.  Based on the assessment you may be referred to treatment.  Participation in an approved substance abuse recovery program may be set as a necessary and required first step towards self‑reliance or as a required support to participation in other employment measures or community placements.

An Individual Treatment Service Plan will be developed to suit each persons needs, as well as the needs of their family.  Various support are available while a Participant is actively involved in completing treatment.  Supports that may be accessed include:

bullet

transportation expenses to treatment programs and required support services

bullet

child care expenses and arrangements while people are involved in treatment

bullet

moving expenses involved in moving to another community for treatment or recovery

bullet

shelter assistance to cover housing costs for residential treatment

Progress comes one step at a time.  Success does not happen overnight.  People often make several attempts at overcome alcohol and/or drug addictions.  We know this can be a long-term process. Ontario Works' goal is to help people overcome barriers that are preventing them from leading productive lives.
