Effective August 1, 2005, Earnings Exemptions replaced the Supports to Employment Program (STEP). Earnings Exemptions are designed to encourage and assist participants towards independence by providing financial incentives to earn income through employment. As with STEP, earnings exemptions are available after a participant has been in receipt of Social Assistance for three consecutive months and applies only to earned income. Self Employed Participants are not eligible for Earnings Exemptions. Speak with a caseworker for more detail.
